GlassWorks is one of the newest activities at Jojoba Hills, involving the fusing in a kiln of different forms, colors, pieces and layers of glass into a single beautiful piece.

Kiln formed glass can be abstract to realistic, three dimensional, thin or thick, transparent or opalescent, smooth or rough, etc.  New artistic techniques are constantly created.  Different from other creative mediums, glass is unique in its translucence and changes with light.  Sylvia Levinson, artist from Lunch with a Glass Artist Facebook Group.

Here's a note of thanks from one of our newer Glass Words artist:

"Hey, Im Lorraine Y. I have to say I am absolutely not artistic,  I have no patience and never in a million years thought I would take to glassworks. Before they moved I did go to a class and Im like nope not for me and I left. Glassworks then moved, got the trailer all kitted out and I watched it grow and develop.  Bruce kept saying to me to do the introductory class and im like nope Lol Long story short I decided to do the class!!

OMG I got totally addicted and love it!!

I find it so therapeutic  and when I say see ya to my husband I am gone for hours Lol I have made several pieces, some lovely, so Ummm nope and some got eaten and died in the kiln. It is my passion and I love how it all comes together that makes me look at it and think WOW did I really make that Lol

Anyway thought I would pass on how I fel and how very thankful I am to Bruce, Patti for showing me the ropes after all they are amazing in what they make." Lorraine

Unless you were in a secret guild, on a locked down Italian island, or had access to expensive furnaces and molten glass, “[f]or 99.99% of history . . . , you likely had 00.00% chance of working creatively with glass.”  Bullseye Glass.  Glass as an artistic expression by individuals started with the American Studio Glass Movement in the early 1960s. Starting in the 1970s and early 1980s, glass manufacturers tested and made available to individuals different compatible glass for fusing, and kiln manufacturers made kilns specifically designed for glass.

Currently, GlassWorks has a destination trailer indoor and outdoor space, two Olympic kilns (514 and 146), Taurus 3 ring saw, grinders, and a variety of tools and supplies.

Artistic or not, come join in! Our GlassWorks group is welcoming and fun! You might be surprised what hidden talent you possess!
